Things go in cycles. Business cycles, women’s skirt lengths, hair styles, etc. All these things are cyclical. Apparently so are the styles of wine. Back in the late 70’s and early 80’s wines were pretty huge. Especially wines from California. There was a “monster zin” fad going on.
